Christmas meme-y thing!
Nabbed from
turlough!
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
I can't stand Egg Nog. I must be the only person. Hot chocolate is cool n all, but I'm Irish. A cuppan tae is the only way.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
They are wrapped and shoved so far up the chimney that later on it gets set on fire because we forgot about it. Whoops.
3. Coloured lights on tree/house or white?
This year we have a fake tree for the first time ever :( (stupid recession, wah.) and it's got white lights, but we have a teeny tiny fake one with coloured lights. No lights outside, this is Ireland, there is rain, there is wind, there is broken lights.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Um, nope.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
8th December is the ~set date, but normally it's like, the 22nd or something. 8th December is the Immaculate Conception (Mary gets knocked up by God, apparently.) and children who go to Catholic schools get the day off and the whole of Ireland goes to Dublin city for shopping. Some call it the Culchie Invasion. It's pretty accurate.
6. What is your favourite holiday dish?
I'm not really a fan of any of the dinner food, tbh. But... Selection boxes! It's not really Christmas food, because you can buy the bars separately year round, but it's fun to have them all in a box and get a stopwatch and have contests to see who can eat the whole box in less than a minute. Then get sick in the toilet.* Fun fun fun! And ROSES. Oh god, I gorge myself senseless on them babies.
7. Favourite holiday memory as a child?
When one of my presents was in the chimney and got set on fire. (See above.)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
God, the year I discovered, that was a bad Christmas. It's rather traumatic, I'd prefer not to talk about it.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yup, from under the tree. The presents under the tree are ones given by family and friends - not from 'santa', then.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
ALL the decorations! About twenty reels of light, millions of ornaments (some handed down through generations.) Every year we go to a garden centre and buy one new thingy each year, mainly because they get broken/lost/eaten every year. Then tinsel, a different colour each year. This year it's silver.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love it for the first day, then after being stuck in the house because we live on a giant hill with a crappy lane down that gets as slippy as a bar of soap, it gets boring real quick.
12. Can you ice skate?
Yep! I'm pretty good at it, can do spins and jumps. I've always wanted to be The Ice Princess! (Y'know that movie with Michelle whatsherface who does ice skating? I wanted to be her.)
13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
My iPod. I still have it, and use it every single day. And my bike. I loved my bike.
14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Is it really bad if I say presents? Nah, the sense of happiness and stuff.
15. What is your favourite holiday dessert?
As mentioned before, omnomnom Roses and selection boxes.
16. What is your favourite holiday tradition?
Watching some horrid movie/Harry Potter on Christmas day, sniggering because I'm not at mass and everyone else is, eating tins of Roses and wearing my new Christmas outfit, which is usually a dress and fluffy socks.
17. What tops your tree?
It changes every year. This year it's a cheapy golden star thingy.
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving?
Um. I hate giving with a vengeance. It's so awkward, handing it over and being all "UHM I HOPE YOU LIKE IT BUT IT'S KINDA SHIT REALLY."
19. Candy Canes?
I like them, but too many = sick Francesca.
20. Favourite Christmas show?
The Dr Who Christmas special! Or that show thats on TV on Rte every Christmas. I forget it's name,
21. Saddest Christmas song?
I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'm sure there is one. Hmm.
22. What is your favourite Christmas song?
Ryan Sheridan covered some song which name I forget recently. I like that. Oh, and Every Snowflake is Different.
23. Favorite Christmas movie?
HOME ALONE \o/
24. How long do you leave up Christmas decorations?
Normally it's up until about June, then there is a brief discussion: "Ah, sure, it's nearly Christmas. Leave 'em up."
25. What kind of cookies do you leave for Santa?
We leave mince pies and carrots. For Rudolph, ofc.

THAT IS AMAZING. I can see that that would be memorable. If not a bit traumatic?
